The EDT (Edge Data Transfer) module is responsible for importing and exporting data between the Edge and your Punchmark website. This system is a 2nd generation module of what was once called Edge TPW (third party website). The EDT system is more complex and includes data like customers, wish lists, and transactions, and has the potential to transfer data in two directions.

Some of the general information in these guides is also covered below as it pertains to integration with your website.

EDT Configurations

There are two configurations available for EDT:

Single Directional EDT
One way flow of data from The Edge to your website. This is export only. No data is imported back into The Edge.

Bi-Directional EDT
Two-way flow of data back and forth from your website to The Edge. This supports export and import.

Pricing

It is important to note that there are costs involved for Abbott Jewelry Systems (the Edge) and Punchmark. For Abbott Jewelry Systems, there is a one-time setup fee (plus annual service with Bi-Directional integration). For Punchmark, there are no setup fees, and integration is included in both Professional and Advanced Plans, or added on as a separate service.

Abbott Jewelry Systems (Edge) Pricing

Below is a breakdown of pricing for Abbott Jewelry Systems.

The EDT module must be purchased and enabled in your Edge license. EDT is available in both single directional and bi-directional configurations. Pricing varies and includes both one-time activation fees as well as increases to your annual service contract.

It is possible to start with single directional EDT and upgrade to bi-directional in the future by paying the difference.

Punchmark (website) Pricing

Below is a breakdown of pricing for your Punchmark Monthly Service Plan. Punchmark has waived all setup fees to get started with Edge EDT Integration.

How It Works

On initial set up, an agent from Abbott Jewelry Systems logs in to your computer and helps you configure your system to determine what data to include. The first time EDT runs, all chosen data is exported to the website as a full upload of all data. It is then set to run on a schedule (once a day, once an hour, every 15 minutes, etc.) and on each subsequent run, only new or changed data is included. For Bi-Directional integrations, it will also check for pending files that come back from your website. After the first upload, a Punchmark customer success representative will set up a default category structure based on your categories in the Edge. All imports are processed for products, customers, wish lists, repairs, and transactions, if applicable. Once the default options are in place, the Punchmark team will hand it off to you to make any final tweaks.

The EDT Software Interface

The EDT (Edge Data Transfer) module is responsible for importing and exporting data between the Edge and your Punchmark website.

Tabs

General

This tab is responsible for determining whether your upload will be incremental (changes since last upload) or everything (all products), taking into account all configurations that are set on other tabs. Running a full upload is typically only performed on the very first upload, and if there are ever any large configuration changes or interruptions in data transfer. There is an option to include job files (repairs) from this page.

Configuration

This tab lets you manage your FTP credentials for connecting to your website, along with a few other settings.

  • FTP Server: It is important that this points to edgeftp.shopfinejewelry.com in order to have Edge EDT working properly. If this needs to be changed, please contact Edge Support (support@ajsllc.com) so that they can update your license file with the correct FTP host.

  • User Name / Password: These credentials are created by Punchmark, and are usually added by Edge support technicians while they configure your initial upload.

  • Passive Mode: Lets your FTP connections stay active so that you don’t have to continue opening new connections to transfer data over a period of time.

  • Use FTP over SSL (AUTH SSL): This option connects over an encrypted connection. Please note that this option is only available if your FTP Server is set to edgeftp.shopfinejewelry.com.

  • Use SFTP: Make sure this option is not checked, as your configuration will not work.

  • Use EdgeID As Root Folder: Make sure this option is not checked, as your configuration will not work.

  • Send FTP: This needs to be checked in order for the Edge to upload files to the website.

  • Upload CSV Files: This option is unnecessary with EDT.

  • File Types: Make sure the option is set to JSON.

Item Details

This tab allows you to manage which categories, vendors, item statuses, pricing methods, inventory types should be uploaded to the website, as well as the number of photos per item and a few other options. Below, you can see the expanded options that can be chosen for each panel.

  • Item Statuses: These options let you allow products of certain item statuses to reach the website. The default option is “In Stock”. If you happen to add other options, be sure to confirm that you want all these products to be shown publicly.

  • Pricing Methods: These options let you allow products of certain pricing methods to reach the website. The default option is “Fine Jewelry, Individual Item Pricing”. If you choose any other option, please note that it may cause unexpected results, depending on the way you manage products in those categories.

  • Inventory Types: These options let you allow products of certain inventory types to reach the website. The default option is “Stock”. If you choose other options, be sure to confirm that you want all these products to be shown publicly.

Extra Columns

This tab should be disregarded in EDT, as these columns only pertain to a CSV upload, which is no longer relevant in your Punchmark website.

Customer

This tab is responsible for determining how your customer data connects, and what data points will be transferred.

  • Server: This should be the same setting as on your Configuration tab.

  • User Login / Password: These credentials should also be the same as on your Configuration tab.

  • Send FTP: This needs to be checked to have customer data sent to your website.

  • Upload all customers: This option is usually only checked before the very first upload, and only when there are massive data changes, or interruptions in the regular transfers over time.

  • Only customers with email: This option should be checked, as only customers with email addresses are registered as website customers.

  • Upload wish lists (bi-directional): This option is only available with bi-directional integration, and lets you transmit and receive wish list data for your customers.

  • Upload transactions: This lets you upload actual transactions to the website so that customers can see their in-store purchase history.

Website Configuration

Your POS Preferences

This is the website version of your configurations to determine what happens to your data once it reaches the website. Here, you can control things like which fields that you want overwritten, and do things like run diagnostics on products, categories and vendors to find the root cause of any issues you may be experiencing.

Category Map

This map determines how your Edge categories are represented on your website. If a category is NOT mapped, then it won’t show up on your website, unless you have a particular product manually assigned to a category within the Edge on the Website Tab.

Products

How It Works

The general goal is that you will be able to go about your daily operations in your store, and your website will listen in on any changes that you make on a day-to-day basis. However, it may not work out of the box as you’d expect, since every retailer uses the Edge a bit differently. Below are some best practices and a few things to consider to make it work successfully for you however your inventory is managed.

The Edge Interface : Inventory > Items

General Tab: Most of the data is controlled on this one tab, if not set in the “Website” tab.

Stones Tab: All diamond and gemstone information will come from this tab.

Website Tab: this tab is responsible for the data that pertains to the website only. It is highly recommended to fill this this tab out, but if it is empty, then information from the General tab will be used to populate this information.

  • Never Upload This Item: Checking this option will never upload the item to the website, or it will take the item down if it exists on the website.

  • Always Upload This Item: Checking this option will make sure the item always reaches the website. If an item is sold, or has a status other than “In Stock” this item will not show on the website by default.

  • Web Category: Setting this option on a product-level will override any settings you have on your Category Map. If the Category Map has a value for this particular Edge category, you do not need to manually set this per item in order for it to be categorized and visible on your website.

  • Web Title: This is the title of the item itself, which will appear in the header <h1> tag on the website. If this option is blank, this will default to your singular item title, as seen on your Category Map.

  • Web Description: Leaving this option blank will defer to your default product description.

  • Meta Title: This is the title of the web page of the product, and is the default title that shows in Google results and in other search engines. You see this title at the top of your browser page itself. If nothing is entered in this field, the meta title is automatically generated from product data and your geolocation.

  • Meta Description: This is the meta description behind the scenes, and is never visible to the human eye, except when looking at the source code, or viewing the description that shows in Google results. If nothing is entered in this field, the meta description is automatically generated from product data and your geolocation.

  • Meta Keywords: These are the meta keywords behind the scenes, and is never visible to the human eye, except when looking at the source code, or viewing the description that shows in Google results. This field has become obsolete as far as Google is concerned, but some search engines still deem it relevant.

  • Base SKU: This field is to help you create variations that are connected and hinged on this piece of data. For example, if you have two products with a Base SKU of 1234, then each will be associated as variations (e.g. 1234-14KY and 1234-14KW).
